WOMEN AS ART
WORKSHOP DETAILS
PART ONE …
…will set the stage in a group discussion format that will challenge you to shift your mindset on how your art represents the women in it, draw inspiration from unexpected sources, to see women’s personalities, bodies, and energy as art, and to reimagine what you want your photography of women to say.
You’ll design a personal artistic assignment and creative roadmap for yourself that you will put into motion during part 2.
LUNCH
There will be a proper sustenance break in which family-style lunch will be provided at a local neighborhood restaurant.
PART TWO …
…is the application portion of the day in which photographers will take turns directing and artfully photographing our muses in a way that follows each one’s unique creative roadmap. After 2 short shoot exercises intended to challenge photographers to see more artfully, we’ll throw away all of the technical rules and PLAY, but with purpose—making room for more impactful, unique, and artistic images. The goal will be to create work that is completely different than your peers while capturing artful photographs specific to your creative preferences and your determined photo project.
A “reunion” call will be held for all attendees a few months after the workshop to share their finished project.
Photographers will walk away from this workshop with more clarity on their own artistic preferences and a roadmap for achieving their reimagined vision.
You’ll develop a finer trained artist’s eye, an elevated level of confidence in creative shooting, and a toolkit bursting with ideas to better serve your clients and muses with increased confidence in selling your art.
The icing on the cake will be amazing and true-to-you portfolio images and mini project, as well as the act of falling in love with your own work again (or for the first time).
Refreshments and lunch will be included, and the class size will be limited to 12 for more personalized learning, connection, and individual shoot time with the muse(s).

Learn more about Kara Marie HERE.
I'm Kara Marie Trombetta- a speaker, educator, and American photographer who intentionally traded in a high volume studio in Austin, Texas for a reimagined creative life in Northern Italy.
For over a decade in my workshops and stage presentations, I’ve been helping photographers create deeper, more thoughtful work that stands apart from their peers and celebrates the people in their photographs WHILE designing a creative life with integrity that they love.
My teaching style is approachable, actionable, and judgement-free while gently encouraging self-exploration, not “do what I do”. I believe wholeheartedly that there is no ONE way to do things and that you already know the answer somewhere— you just have to tap into it and I’m here to help with that.
This workshop in particular is a special one in which I guide each photographer to see more artfully, capturing all the gorgeous facets of a woman’s personality, energy, and body in a style and concept that speaks to each artist individually.

“Woman as Art” will be held in a gorgeous historic warehouse studio in the heart of the Navigli District of Milan, Italy. The studio is located in a neighborhood with a plethora of accommodations, restaurants, and shops all within walking distance.

-
Absolutely— this course material and shoot experience will be valuable regardless of your experience level. It’s never too soon to hone in on your artistry or to explore your style preferences.
-
Yes, the images you create at the website are yours for marketing purposes as the workshop’s goal is for you to create UNIQUE work that speaks to your artistic preferences rather than recreating the same image as your peers. The muse(s) will have signed a portfolio model release for you to use the images for your own website and social media promotions. You will not have permission to sell the images in digital or print capacity.
-
There will be 3+ hours dedicated to the photoshoot portion of the workshop, and that time will be divided evenly between attendees and models to allow for the maximum amount of unique creation time with each muse. The total number of muses will be determined once the total number of attendees is finalized. Photographers can expect to photograph at least 2 different models, and will also be welcome and encouraged to photograph each other in between. Kara Marie makes a point of giving personal attention to each photographer to determine their photo project and to guide through the shoot as desired.
-
In order to allow for maximum impact and 1:1 shoot time for each photographer with the muse(s) whilst receiving personal attention from Kara Marie, this class size will be limited to 12 attendees without exception.
-
If you prefer to take notes on a laptop or tablet, you are welcome to bring one. However, notebooks and pens will be provided. Bring your camera(s), lens(es), and gear of choice (even toy cameras/polaroids/film, etc! Whatever you want to create with. There is no right or wrong— the point is to make awesome art using what you’ve got!
-
While the muse(s) will be styled in layered options to reveal a state of undress at the artists’ preference, it is a not a nude specific workshop and models will not be fully nude. The most revealing look will be lingerie.
-
Yes, there is approximately 1.5 hours blocked off for lunch in which lunch will be provided for all attendees. Depending on the final class size, this may be at a restaurant within walking distance (photographers will be able to lock their gear in the studio while we are gone), or it may be catered in to the studio. Should there be any severe dietary restrictions, please advise ASAP so that we can accommodate.

There are 3 main airports in Milan— Malpensa (MXP- the largest and most convenient), Bergamo, and Linate.
The main train hub is called Milano Centrale from which you can take a taxi, a bus, the metro, or an uber as you please.
I recommend using the website rome2rio.com to find the best travel route from wherever you are including price comparisons and total travel time.
